About Me
I'm Nil, a Turkish-born artist based in Vienna, creating spontaneous, automatic drawings that bridge cultures and consciousness. My roots in Turkey and my life in Austria have shaped a unique artistic perspective that flows through my work.
My studies in archaeology and multimedia design, along with my experience working as an assistant in an art shop, deepened my interest in culture, art, and human history. Alongside classical archaeology, my training in underwater archaeology added another dimension to my art. Experiencing the silence, weightlessness, and mystery of the underwater realm—diving into that separate universe unknown to most of us—deepened my connection with the subconscious. This experience strengthened my passion for creative thinking and artistic production. This cross-cultural and multi-layered background—spanning from ancient Anatolian civilizations to contemporary European art, from land fragments to underwater depths—informs every line I draw.
My work is sophisticated and surrealist; a journey guided not by the mind, but by the subconscious. My drawings often take form through the female body, because I aim to reflect the voices women have long been forced to silence—a theme that resonates across both my Turkish heritage and my European experience. My drawings are like dreams—both familiar and strange. They bend and question reality, reflecting relationships, systems, identities, and wounds.
